History
Bayview was founded in 1961 to care for the elderly residents of Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood and beyond. Early Seattlite Charles A. Kinnear bequeathed his family's historic property to the First United Methodist Church for the care of older adults and children. The Methodist Church worked with the community to create a ten-story residential facility, which was augmented in 1995 by a Wellness Center, Rehabilitation and Health Center, and Intergenerational Children's Center. Today, Bayview Retirement Community is an independent not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, managed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. It embraces residents from many faith traditions and serves the community with a myriad of programs and services.
