Positive lifestyle choices
Bayview Wellness Center is a health promotion and fitness center tailored to meet the needs of mature adults. We are open for membership to the general public, and our residents. We offer daily classes in the fitness studio, Monday through Saturday, and aquatic exercise classes in our warm water pool, as well as personal training on our new 2009 exercise equipment. We provide ongoing support, Wellness Coaching, individual attention and health education for positive lifestyle choices.
Goals
We share a commitment to help each individual build optimal health, vitality and fitness. Our goal is to empower you to be successful in meeting your own personal goals. We give you the tools, support and personal guidance needed to help you realize your optimal wellness.
Philosophy
Wellness means more than the absence of disease; it is a philosophy that fosters balance in all areas of our lives through prevention and health promotion. We take a holistic approach to wellness, which encompasses mental, social, spiritual, emotional and physical aspects of our lives. Wellness involves all the lifestyle choices we make, and learning what the best choices are for each of us.
Staff
The most important component of a successful wellness center, besides our clients is the staff. The staff at Bayview Wellness Center are trained and certified fitness professionals who will give you the time and proper guidance you need to succeed. They have many years of experience working with mature adults, and giving compassionate attention to the needs and goals of each individual.
Personal Training
You will receive personal, one to one attention to design and maintain a program that really works for you. The staff will help you learn how to use the exercise equipment safely, effectively and comfortably. You can make appointments Monday through Saturday to consult with staff about questions, or to monitor your program as needed.
Classes
We offer beginner and advanced Enhance Fitness exercise classes, developed by researchers at the University of Washington. We also offer Tai Chi, Yoga, Circuit Training, Aquatic Exercise and many other classes to choose from. We emphasize fun and enjoyment as well as good body mechanics and injury prevention.
Aquatics
We offer Arthritis Foundation Aquatics classes in our warm water pool. These classes provide gentle range of motion exercises to help increase joint flexibility and muscle strength, while they help to reduce pain and stiffness. We also offer Water Walking classes.
Equipment Rooms
Our gym features Keiser pneumatic strength training equipment, which is safer and more effective for seniors because it uses air resistance rather than iron weights. For this reason, Keiser equipment has been used almost exclusively in research on strength training for seniors. We also have a Keiser Stretch Corner and a wide variety of aerobic equipment to help you build your endurance, including the NU-Step, treadmills, ellipse and the Bio-Step. Staff will take the time needed to help each individual become familiar and comfortable with the equipment.
Why join Bayview Wellness Center?
Would you like to have more vitality, be stronger and healthier? If you are like many seniors, you may feel that as you age you have less energy and strength to do the things you have always done. This doesn’t have to happen to you! You do have a choice! In fact, scientists have found that loss of muscular strength and mental acuity are not inevitable results of aging.
You can get significant health benefits by engaging in moderate physical activity most days of the week. Also, physically active lifestyles have been proven to protect us from many diseases and chronic conditions associated with aging such as:
Depression Obesity Diabetes
Osteoporosis Arthritis Heart disease
High blood pressure Cancer High cholesterol
Those who lead a sedentary lifestyle greatly increase their risk of falls and of becoming dependent on others for their care. Physical activity is important for the health of muscles, bones, and joints as well as our general well being. Through a modest increase in daily activity, most people can improve their health and quality of life and remain independent and vital throughout their life.
